Questions
What should family AI rules include?
Three things: what AI may do (explain, quiz, hint, check your reasoning), what it may not do (write work you hand in, give final answers to assessed work, get private information), and routines that keep the thinking yours, such as trying first for 10 minutes and explaining it back afterwards.
At what age should kids use AI chatbots?
Check each tool's terms. Many general chatbots require users to be at least 13, with parental consent for younger teens. Whatever the age, the rules matter more than the tool: AI should ask, hint and check, not do.
Is using AI for homework cheating?
It depends on the teacher's rules and on who does the thinking. Asking AI to explain an idea, quiz you or check your reasoning is usually fine. Having it write or solve what you hand in usually isn't. When a teacher or exam board says no AI, it's no AI.
How do Waldorf or screen-light families handle AI?
Many keep the early years analogue and introduce digital tools in secondary school. Useful rules include AI only in shared rooms, talking things through rather than scrolling, and big feelings going to a person first.
